“We started selling at farmers’ markets in 2009 and it was a big surprise. We sold out week after week and then people kept coming to the farm over the winter – it really caught my attention,” says Paul Svetec. Paul and his wife Jenny operate a mixed farm with a farm-gate store which stays open year-round thanks to diverse products and plenty of local demand. After the market garden season, customers visit the farm for free-range eggs, pastured poultry and grass-fed beef. Building a year-round relationship with their consumers is an invaluable opportunity for the Svetecs – one grocery chains can’t match!
