Frank Batty, Wayne Foster & James McIntosh
“Small-scale family farming is a huge part of the country’s heritage. When it’s successful, farmers spend a lot in their communities,” says James McIntosh. James and his neighbours Frank Batty and Wayne Foster are members of Scotch Mountain Meats, a business venture formed in 2005 to jointly market their artisan beef, lamb and pork. All livestock are open-pastured and fed farm-grown crops processed at a local water-powered mill. Through the business, these farmers simply agree to continue what their ancestors have done for centuries: raise animals naturally to supply safe, healthy food.
